Description Of The Saying Of Rasoolullah On Poetry

ENGLISH

Jabir ibn Samura said:

‘I sat with the Prophet (ﷺ) more than one hundred times, and his Companions used to recite poetry to one another. They would also reminisce over things relating to the pagan era [al-jahiliyya], while he was silent and sometimes even smiled with them.’”

ARABIC

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ، قَالَ‏:‏ جَالَسْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، أَكْثَرَ مِنْ مِائَةِ مَرَّةٍ، وَكَانَ أَصْحَابُهُ يَتَنَاشَدُونَ الشِّعْرَ، وَيَتَذَاكَرُونَ أَشْيَاءَ مِنْ أَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، وَهُوَ سَاكِتٌ وَرُبَّمَا تَبَسَّمَ مَعَهُمْ‏.‏
